Humiliation | Part 5b

The enemy can touch who you are in the flesh, but he can't touch who you are in the spirit. He can touch the old you, but he can't touch the new you. I can walk in humility until you try to humiliate me. And then my natural instinct says I'm going to defend myself and I'm going to give you some information to let you know you're way off when it comes to who I am. Am I the only one? As a matter of fact, I can take somebody's humiliation and turn it to fuel. Tell me again what I can't do, I'll show you what I can. Tell me again what won't happen because I'm using it as fuel. Hey, glory to God. But it's different when you did it. It's different when you sin. It's different when you let yourself down. It's like the enemy is more convincing for me to wear it because I did it. And we're that way not only about ourselves, we're about that on other people too because we'll say, oh, well, you know, they brought it on themselves. They brought that on themselves. And we feel like people ought to wear what they brought on themselves. You know, Johnny lost his car. Well, he brought it on himself. I told that boy to get to work. That wasn't his car, no way. Oh, he brought that on himself. Don't raise your hand if you're guilty of ever saying to somebody, you brought that on yourself. But there's something about bringing it on yourself that we feel like therefore it's excused. That's why we use the word shame on you. But Jesus is saying shame off you. We're about to get in this journey with Peter that's going to go south. It's going to look bad. But I want you to see the love of God that's going to cause Peter to overcome his own self humiliation. So we'll look at it in Luke 22. When you get there, say amen. Let's continue the journal.

Verse 31. Luke 22, 31, if you're there, say amen. And the Lord says, Simon, Simon. Now you're calling me by my mama given name. It's almost like we're all a Simon and a Peter. I'm who I was, and I'm who he made me to be, all in the same person. But when he calls me by what I was, I have to pay attention. For me, at home, it was when my mama used my middle name. It was different. The Lord says, Simon, Simon, Satan hath desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat. Now that is not what you want to hear. This word, desired to have you, literally means made requisition for. Filled out a requisition for him. Asked heaven if he could touch Peter. Now on one side, that's discouraging. You're like, man, why is the enemy after me? But sometimes you've got to turn the enemy on his head and say, wait a minute. If you're after me, it must be for a reason. Why would you be requesting me? If you're here today and you feel like the enemy's been playing with your mind and toying with your emotions and making you doubt your future and second-guess your meaning and your value, you might be at that point where you're ready to take your own life. Why is the enemy after you? What does he see in you that you don't see yet? My dear friend, Dr. Mack, says this to me quite often. He calls me brother pastor, and he says these words quite often. He says, brother pastor, if you're going to tote the ball, you're going to get hit. There's something to being on Satan's hit list. Hey, let me say this, let me say this. Because there are things that I've read in the Word that have built my faith.

Hands down. There's experiences I've had in my walk with the Lord that have shaped my faith. Hand down. And I don't need nothing else because I've got enough out of His Word and I've got enough out of my experience with Him that I'm ready to live for Him for the rest of my life. But today on the way to church, let me find my sweat rack so I can go walk in somebody's face. Today on the way to church, I say, you know who is the most important? Most convincing of them all, of the people and the things in my life that God is who he says he is, the enemy. The enemy convinces me my faith is real. The enemy convinces me that God does have a purpose in my life, why? Because of the times that he shows up trying to stop me are not just these coincidences. It's too obvious that he'll show up on a Sunday morning. You ask your wife where your necktie was any day of the week, and she'll say, baby, I hadn't seen it. But you'll get up on a Sunday morning and say, baby, you seen my necktie? She'll say, do I look like I wear your necktie? And you're like, I didn't say you wore my necktie. I'm just asking where it was. Well, why you gotta get an attitude? Because you got the attitude because I saw it. Well, why you gotta get an attitude? Because you got the attitude because I simply asked you

where my tie was. Well, again, do I wear ties? Baby, I don't understand where this is going, but you know what? Forget going to church today. Let me find somebody. You know good, well, that's real. What's happening right now? The enemy is showing you the reality of your faith. Opposition is opposed to position. When there's a position I'm supposed to be in, opposition is opposing that. What is God calling you to? Where is he calling you? If you don't experience opposition, then you must not supposed to be there. But yeah, folk today won't go because they feel opposition. Opposed position. That's confirmation that you don't retreat, but you go. Well, I was going to pray, and then this happened. Oh, I was going to get in the Word, and then, oh. But those other distractions didn't stop you from getting on social media. And you paused the video when that other thing happened. Let your enemy convince you this position in your life matters. Because sometimes you got to look at it and say, wait a minute, this ain't no coincidence that this happened now. Are y'all with me?

So Jesus just told Simon, Satan wants you. But, verse 32, I have prayed for thee. Ooh. Jesus prayed for me? I prayed, you mean Jesus, you prayed for Peter, but I have prayed for thee. Prayed for him, why? Because you knew the enemy was coming. That thy faith fail not, and when thou art converted, a conversion is a change. If you drive a convertible, and you got the top on, and then the top is off, that's a conversion. That's a change. He said, I'm bringing about a change in your life, Peter, and when you experience this conversion, I want that conversion to be strength to your brothers. There's something I got to bring you through that's going to make everybody better, including you. In other words, Peter, I'm about to use Satan as my errand boy. He asked for you, and I'm going to let him touch you, because you're going to be stronger at the end of it. Ooh, that's heavy. So let's go back to the journal. Deep breath, today Jesus told me Satan is after me. Why? Satan is after me. Why? I've tried to be a faithful disciple.

Why do I have to go through this? Good news, exclamation point. Jesus said he was praying for me, and that when it was over, I could strengthen my brethren. Hashtag, wonder what's next. This ain't like nothing else we've seen in the journal. Hey, Simon, I know your daddy, and here's what I know about your future. Wow, who do men say I am? Peter, I know. Only my father showed you that. Come here, I want to show you something heavier. Voice of God, I know you're a man of God. I know you're a man of God. I know you're a man of God. I know you're a man of God. next day Peter Say won't you Go with me a little bit further in this Cuz man this gets heavy This gets real heavy Verse 33 He said to him Lord I'm ready to go with you I'll go with you into prison and I'll go with you into death Look at the commitment Look at the worth that Peter is putting in Jesus, even though Jesus just told him Satan has filled out a requisition for me He's coming after you say come that devil can come he can do what he want to do But Lord, I'll go with you to prison. I'll go with you to death. He's not stopping my commitment You

You know when we're in worship y'all got a minute I'll be done here a little bit when we're in worship. Where's right? Yeah when we're in worship and You sense and that can be worship corporate here because corporate worship and individual worship don't always look the same But but when we're in court, let's say corporate worship. We're here Worshipping the Lord together and and you feel a tug you feel a surrender I surrender all there's something inside of you You want to give up? Whether it be an addiction of sin. I have it. Maybe you want to serve the Lord But then you there's something you want to surrender you're thinking man Lord. I want to I just want to be used by you when when you feel that surrender when you feel that that's worship because Worship is rooted in worth and you're saying Lord you are worth you are worth my giving my service my surrender Y'all with me And you see somebody in church hands raised I'm talking to you, but if we're talking about somebody else, but really you And we have hands raised and we'll say Lord in that moment of worship Lord Use me Use me Lord have your will in my life. Just use me tears screaming Lord use me three months later. We look and we ain't seen you in church That's a man we've been missing and where you been? Oh, I ain't going back up there all them people do is use people Well didn't that what you pray for Use me Lord I Peter right here is like Lord. I'll go to prison. I Will die with you I'm all in And then look at what Jesus is gonna tell him next look at this Watch the next verse verse 30 34, and he said I tell you Peter And what's amazing is that he switches back to Peter When in verse 31 he says Simon Because in verse 31, it's Simon that's being touched by Satan, but Satan can't touch Peter Yeah, but here what I'm saying the enemy can touch who you are in the flesh

But he can't touch who you are in the spirit. He can touch the old you but he can't touch the new you I push chills down my spine. That's so heavy You touch my flesh, but you can't touch my spirit because greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world But now he addresses Peter Peter Knowing what you know being who I've made you to be This is what you're gonna do Peter The cock shall crow this day the rooster will crow But before it the rooster crows you will have denied me three times Peter not Simon How could Peter do that I Could see how Simon would have done that My nickname in high school was Hootie James, I could see how Hootie James might miss God But pastor James Are you seeing what I'm saying when you know what the Lord has done when you know how he has Changed everything including your name. You are not what you used to be and yet that person is still gonna deny He didn't say Simon you're not what you used to be Will deny me said Peter let the Peter the one I named the one that knows me you will deny me And here they are in Luke 9 arguing about who's the greatest But watch this He said you're gonna deny me three times for the rooster crows Drop down to verse number 54 They took him and led him and brought him into the high priest house That's Jesus He's being led away to be crucified and Peter followed a far-off read that out loud and Peter followed a far-off and that's what we do you when you see that following a Far-off, that's when you need to get your radar Wait, wait, wait, wait, what am I doing? What am I doing? What am I doing GPS kick in? What am I doing? And

When they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall and were set down together Peter sat down among them But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire and earnestly looked upon him and said this man Was also with him with Jesus He denied him sin woman. I know him not Flesh and blood hath not revealed it under thee but my father which is in heaven. I don't know him Verse 58 and after a little while another saw him and said thou art also of them and Peter said man I am not second time Not only do I not know him. I'm not with him Verse 59 and about the space of one hour after another Confidently affirmed saying of a truth. This fellow also was with him, but he is a Galilean Peter verse 60 said man. I know not what thou sayest and immediately the rooster crew He heard the crowing of that rooster and what Jesus said had come to pass yet again That before the rooster crows you will have denied me not once not twice but three times that you even know who I am Now you can only imagine the embarrassment and the humiliation and the shame When nobody right now knows Jesus like Peter You see how can you say that Matthew 16 Jesus said flesh and blood didn't tell you this my father gave you this nobody knows Jesus like Peter and yet Peter just said I don't know him three times Verse 62 and Peter went out and did what wept bitterly But notice I believe one of the main reasons he's weeping so bitterly right here is because of what We we see in verse 61 The Lord turned and looked upon Peter that meant Peter denied him in the presence of Jesus He saw Jesus and in his presence three times that I don't know that man The man that knew your name When you first walked up The man that spoke over your future the day he met you the man that said You only know what you know by my father the man that took you to the mountain the man that showed you the voice of The father you're in his presence saying I don't know the man the man that when you walked on water Because you took him at his word and you begin to sing that man reached down and pulled you out of the water

And into the boat you're telling me you don't know that man the man who you heard speak to the wind and you said what? Man is this that's Peter. He said what manner of man is this that even the winds obey him? And now you say you don't know him In his presence So he goes out he weeps bitterly I Know to John would go with me to John 21. That's where we'll close but don't don't leave to beat the crowd You got to get this Guess what happened in the journal today? I'm too broken to write about it The journal I don't know what to say You I humiliated myself. Surely this is it. Everything I thought I had is gone. It's over. How could I ever face Him again? And maybe right now you're at that place of humiliation because you've let yourself down. You've lived with other people letting you down, but you never let yourself down like this. This is self-humiliation. You allowed this in your life. That's where Peter is. And boy, isn't it something that when we feel like we've missed it, we'll go back where we were. Chapter 31, verse 3, Simon Peter saith unto them, I'm going fishing. I'm going fishing. That's what you were when Jesus met you. I had somebody really broken one day tell me, they said, Pastor Jay, you just don't know. I lost my job this week, and I didn't want to be insensitive, but I asked a question.

I said, were you looking for a job when you found out? Yes, sir. I said, so you saw it and you found it. And we think that I don't know Him. I wasn't following Him. I just heard of Him. I'm just a fisherman. He said, I know your name, I know your daddy, I know your future, follow me. He took me to the mountain, but I done messed up now. I'm going back to where I was. I'm going back to the street. I'm going back to the club. I'm going back to that life. I'm going back. And you think somehow or another His grace won't reach you. But if He saved you when you didn't know Him, and if He saves you when you were in that wreck, would He not save you now? Would He not deliver you now? Has He changed His mind about the name He gave you? The gifts and calling of God are without repentance. There are too many in the body of Christ that have fallen never to rise again because the body of Christ has not believed in redemption. When in reality, the only difference between your mess and my mess and somebody else's mess is some people's mess goes public and some stays private. I'm going fishing. So what does Jesus do with this? Verse 10, Jesus saith unto them, bring the fish. Bring them fish you caught. Oh my goodness, it's going to be so powerful. Bring them fish you caught.

I don't believe this was just a regular fishing trip. I believe this was Peter going fishing because I got to go back to where I was. I done messed up where I was going. But when he gets to the bank from running, Jesus has done built a fire and said, bring me the fish. Peter, I'm going to meet you where we first met. You were a fisherman when we met. I called you to preach, but I know where you came from. So if you want to go back to where you came from, I'll meet you there. I'll meet you there. I'll cook the fire. I'll get the coals hot. I'll get the grill ready. I'm ready to meet you where I found you His grace for me Not how dare you what are you doing back fishing again? Why did you leave the ministry? No, he goes to where Peter is because that's his heart That's the heart of the father going after the prodigal son saying I'm ready to kill the fatted calf I'm ready to put the coat back on you in the ring on your head. I'm not done with you Don't let your humiliation drive you away from me Nobody like Jesus But wait till you see this They're eating fish and Jesus breaks out some bread Fish and bread With anybody else might mean something different but fish and bread with Jesus is reminding me of his miracles When Peter told Jesus we got a little boy here That's got two fish and five pieces of bread and how the Lord used Peter to get that fish and bread to Jesus when the 5,000 were fed, you know, all this is coming back and it's just flashing right before Peter's eyes But wait till you see this Jesus is about to ask him three times. Do you love me? Do you love me? Do you love me? And Peter denied him three times I Believe God has a way of saying let's go back. Let me give you another chance one two three
