Day 66: Naming what you did out loud. | The Walk Out

You’ve been thinking about your stuff in vague terms. Your brain protects you from the specifics. Today we name them.

TODAY’S TRUTH The specific is what frees you. The vague keeps you stuck.

THE READ “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” — Psalm 139:23–24

David’s invitation: Look at me, God. Show me what’s there. He didn’t say “look at me in general.” He said search me. Specific.

In your own words — what's this saying to you?

THE REAL Vagueness is the enemy of reckoning.

When you say “I’ve made some mistakes,” your brain doesn’t have to look at any specific mistake. When you say “I’ve hurt some people,” you don’t have to think about any specific person. When you say “I’m a sinner,” you don’t have to face any specific sin. Vague is comfortable. Vague is also useless.

Today, get specific.

What did you do? Name it. Not “I lied” — I told [person] [specific lie] on [specific occasion] because [specific reason] and it cost them [specific harm]. Or as close to that as you can get.

This is uncomfortable. That’s the point. Specific naming is what lets the unconfessed thing out of its hiding place. The general “I’ve sinned” lets you keep the specifics safely buried.

You don’t have to do all of them today. You can do them one at a time. Start with one. The biggest one, if you can. The one you’ve been avoiding the longest.

Name it to God. Out loud. As specifically as you can. Time, place, person, action, harm.

It’s going to feel like the worst thing you’ve ever done. It’s also going to start feeling lighter as you say it. Both at once.
